A weekend in Leicester

After a really busy summer it’s been really nice to spend some time at home in Leicester. Last weekend the sun came out and I had a great weekend catching up with friends, and trying out some of the newer places to eat and drink.

There’s a buzz about Leicester at the moment, and I’m really enjoying chilling here. I feel like November is going to be good month.

So it was Friday 31st October and the bar tenders in  the 1930’s inspired bar Manhattan 34  all dressed up for the occasion.

This was followed by dinner and a bottle of wine at the newly opened Cosy Club which opened about 3 weeks ago.  The food and lush and service is fab. Definitely one of best places to open recently and well worth checking it out.

Nice bit of pumpkin carving found on the bar….

I had an amazing comfort dinner of  Kedgeree..

Dinner was followed by a this carton of heaven aka traditional Italian ice cream from Gelato Village, washed down with a cappuccino in St Martins Square.

Next stop was Bar 33 Cank Street an amazing table service cocktail bar which is conveniently located directly across from Galato.

Saturday started  back at Cosy Club for breakfast! I honestly can’t stay away! I choose American pancakes, syrup & bacon. With a huge coffee!!

IMG_9719.JPG

I could not believe how blue the skies where for the first weekend in November… I love a crisp autumnal day.

IMG_9723.JPG

My Saturday night started at the Queen of Bradgate a gastropub on High Street. Where we enjoyed some comfy pub food and took note of all the furniture and fittings… Because you can buy it all! Everything you see in the pub you can either purchase there and then or order it to be delivered.

IMG_9754.PNG

After our meal we went to see Othello at the Curve. The play delivered in Shakespeare’s English was set in pub much like the one in Shameless with the cast also acting shamelessly. The tragic story had me gripped and made me cry. I couldn’t believe how reliant it still felt. You can still get tickets and I strongly recommend it

After all this a relaxing Sunday was spent at home!

Weekly Lookbook V5: Winter coats

By October 31, 2014 Blog, Fashion

The weather is turning, which means its time to dig out our winter coats. We’ve already shared our leather and fur, boots and bags look book and now its the glorious winter coats turn.

Tasha and I love camel, black and grey and the majority of coats we love this season fit neatly into those colour categories. This autumn winter sees another nod to the boyfriend, cocoon, oversized and tailored woolen coat as well as the fab trend of shawls, throw overs and light weight trenches.

A coat is absolutely an investment; I have a beautiful tailored Zara coat I dry clean and wear year on year, as well as my trusty hooded fur lined khaki parker and an abundance of furs and woolen coats. A decent coat can dress up an outfit but still look awesome thrown over boyfriend jeans and trainers. We love layering anything and everything over a decent pair of skinnies or leather pants…As always we are sharing some great coat looks and some amazing buys from the high street

Happy shopping! xoxo

Weekly Lookbook V4: Boots & bags part 2!

By October 20, 2014 Blog, Fashion

We couldn’t resist adding more to our latest lookbook. Tasha and I have gone boots and bags crazy!

Here are some of the best inspo shots we came across when doing our vast research. The reason we love boots so much? because they add edge to any outfit and they are so wearable and stylable. I mean, boots wise I own I think, about 14 pairs. Don’t get me wrong they aren’t all the same. I’ve got Chelsea boots, heeled boots, flat boots, pointed boots, suede boots, leather boots, grey boots, black boots, knee high, thigh high, ankle…you can see my problem here…and don’t get me started on bags!

Best on the high street? This year I have to say Next, Zara and I bought a great Acne style pair from Marks & Spencer recently. Its always worth investing in a great pair of boots. Ive got an over the knee black pair from Carvela Kurt Geiger and have had them for at least 5 years.

Enjoy these fab pics x

Weekly Lookbook V3: Leather & Fur

By October 10, 2014 Blog, Fashion, Lifestyle
IMG_9367-0.PNG

Leather & fur makes us purr!!! Tasha and I LOVE texture, now the weather is changing we are both dreaming of anything leather based and furry. It feels so decadent but edgy wearing a bit of fur with leather. We have put together another Weekly Lookbook V3 to show our influences for putting together our key wardrobe pieces and a few interior ideas thrown in.

We’ve recently had a bit of a wardrobe cleanse and are both adopting the minimalist wardrobe theory by only have a few key pieces in a simple colour palette. Needless to say we are both loving the white, grey and black tones this season has to offer.

Enjoy! X

Browns Lingerie Boutique – Fitting Fiesta

By October 5, 2014 Blog, Fashion, Lifestyle
BrownsLingerie_Finalselection

Considering most of us wear bras every single day, most have not really nailed the art of buying the right bra. It’s often the last piece of our wardrobe to be updated.

Let’s be honest most of us have a draw full of old, ill fitting, poorly looked after bras (honestly do you hand wash them all the time?).

Take my advice on the difference a good bra makes as someone that knows… A well fitted bra creates a more flattering silhouette, your waist will be accentuated and your confidence boosted too. Honestly, since wondering into Browns Lingerie Boutique on Francis Street 5 years ago I have been a faithful customer.IMG_0555.JPG

This week is their annual Fitting Fiesta. Running from Saturday 4th – 11th October. During this week you can go in and be personally fitted so that you know what your perfect shape and size is. When you buy one bra,  you’ll get the second half price. If you go with a friend and you both purchase 2 bras you’ll each get a free pair of briefs.

Plus if you empty out that draw full of old bras and take them with you. Browns are taking part in the Bin your bras for Breast Cancer Campaign. So those tatty old things can be put to good use!IMG_0554.JPG

On Friday I went down to the launch of the event and spent an hour with Lindsey being refitted and trying on multiple styles. I came away with 2 every day Fantasie bras; one nude, seem free, perfect t-shirt bra (£38) and black lace bra (£33). I also treated myself to a beautiful Lebjey set (this was justified as its my wedding anniversary next weekend!).

The shop is owned by mother and daughter Sue and Lindsey. Who both do the personal fitting. When they fit they never us a tape-measure, they base your fitting on sight, as Lindsey explained every designer fits differently and so do each style. Therefore there is no point using measurements. Instead they make a educated estimate on size and provide a bra for you to try. Once on they are looking for these 5 things to ensure you have the perfect fit:

1. The back needs to be straight and low. So that it sits just below your shoulder bones

2. The wire below & between your breasts should sit flat (you shouldn’t be able to get your figures beneath it!)

3. The bra straps should be half way tightened (yes even with the back being below your shoulders)

4. You should not have a shadow as shown in the photo below. This area is called the root of you breast. This shadow means that the wire will become uncomfortable after a few wears.

5. Your silhouette should be smooth. There should be no squishy bits coming over the top or out the sides of the bra. Try a t-shirt over the top of your bra and make sure it all looks smooth.

By the time you leave you’ll feel as though you’ve made a good investment. I’ve felt great since Friday!

Hidden treasures in Worcester, pre-loved designer-wear.

By October 3, 2014 Blog, Fashion
SONY DSC

I’ve lived in Worcester for  a few years but had never been into The Niche on Friar Street, so was totally unaware of its hidden treasures of pre-loved designer-wear! killing time one Saturday afternoon I strolled in and was amazed at the stock they had. The premise is that you take in your pre-loved clothes/ accessories/ shoes in (Mon – Thurs), they value them and then sell them on your behalf. I lost about 30 mins in there marvelling over the coats and jackets and created a massive wishlist. There literally is something for everyone in all sizes!

I promised to go back setting myself the challenge of styling outfits that were on trend for A/W 2014 but at a fraction of the price.

Some of the outfits and accessories I put together are below. Bearing in mind that high end brands such as Mulberry, Joseph, Whistles, Reiss, D&G and DKNY are in stock it was a dream to piece together wearable outfits. Also, The Niche has been in business since 2002 and have a real fan base of women who buy from them but also take their products in to be sold. It results in an Aladdin’s cave of beautiful things! Prices really do vary and it depends on the item and its designer. As a rule I find that a well made, tailored and finished item is worth the investment! You also more 0r less guarantee that not one person will have the same item as you!

Here are the outfits I put together…

Outfit 1 – DKNY leather pencil skirt, Blue Joseph jumper, leather lace-up boots with metal heel detail

Weekly round up of style inspiration

By September 26, 2014 Blog, Fashion, Lifestyle
IMG_9247-0.PNG

Following all the positive reviews of Emma’s street style round up from London Fashion Week. We’ve decided to start posting a weekly round up of style inspiration.

So here is the first. If you follow us on Instagram you’ll know we’re both pretty obsessed with this seasons minimal trend of black, white & grey. Which is particularly appealing to me as I’d rather not spend ages each morning thinking about what to wear each day. I also love minimal design when it comes to home furnishing. Therefore my first collection is my own personal look book which is influancing my style for the approaching cold months.

Yuvna Kim Sparkles at London Fashion Week 14 with her S/S15 Collection

By September 21, 2014 Blog, Fashion

Back in February we covered the AW14 collection of Yuvna Kim London at London fashion week and completely fell in love with her enchanting red carpet glamour.

My weak spot has always been embellished clothing and so when we received an invite to cover the SS15 Collection I couldn’t be more excited. Unfortunately neither of us could make the show and instead we were kindly sent the press pack.  Which has led to Emma & I emailing excitedly over the last few days picking out our favs from her latest look book.

The SS collection is called  ‘Ma Belle Plage’ and looks like a more ready to wear range then the AW14 collection.

Yet again the detail is exquisite. There is meticulous attention to intricate features, with sophisticated beadwork and embellishment.

The collection is inspired the beach, and as Yuvna Kim grew up in Mauritius she knows a thing or two about beautiful beaches.  The collection is made up of topical colours and the embellishments on the dresses conjure up thoughts of palm trees and sea waves

The look book is available in gallery above, but I think the catwalk video below gives you a much better feel as to how these dresses fit and move with the body:
